"A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches".
While having a conversation with one of the senior most colleague, an interesting thing came into my notice. It talked about the naming conventions that are being followed in different parts of planet earth.
Our conversation was a source of amazement and amusement as it was striking to identify that some names which are used for flirting in Asia like Babes, Lovely, Precious, Peachy or Apples are kept as legal names in EMEA and other parts of world. Imagine yourself in an official meeting in Manila and greeting a woman as ‘Hi BABES’…lol
More imaginative parents shoot for more sophisticated forms of poetry or rhyme, as in Biboy, Boboy, Buboy, Baboy (notice the names get worse the more kids there are...best to be born early or you could end up being a Baboy). I salute my parents for not being so creative….:P
Even better, parents can create whole families of, say, desserts (Apple Pie, Cherry Pie, Honey Pie) or flowers (Rose, Daffodil, Tulip). The main advantage of such combinations is that..they look great painted across your trunk if you're a cab driver.
There is also a whole separate field of name games…those where the parents have exhibited a creative sense of humor on purpose. This reminds me of an incident , In last year elections , I came to know that there were 45 women in one small district in India whose name was “SANTARA” (Orange)…hehe…
Note: The Philippines have a senator named Joker, and it is his legal name. So...whatz the meaning of your name…??
